South Australian public school teachers are being encouraged to apply for one of 50 Masters degree scholarships worth up to $20,000, as part of the State Government’s commitment to upskill public education teachers.
The State Government is offering a total of 240 Masters degree scholarships worth $4.8 million, until 2020.
Dr Kerry Kavanagh, DECD’s Director of Human Resources Workforce Development, said the Masters for Teachers Scholarship Program will provide up to $20,000 to recipients to undertake a Masters qualification in 2016.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for teachers who are looking to upskill their qualifications and build on their current knowledge,” Dr Kavanagh said.
“We are particularly keen to attract teachers who have an interest in science, technology, mathematics, languages, literacy and numeracy.
“We have thousands of dedicated and highly qualified teachers working in our schools and we want to continue to build on this and strengthen our workforce.”
Last year, 30 scholarships of up to $20,000 were given to teachers in SA to undertake a Masters degree.
“We are committed to providing the best teachers in each and every one of our schools and these scholarships are a further boost to teachers’ skills and capabilities,” Dr Kavanagh said.
“Our students deserve the best education and having top quality teachers will ensure this standard is met across the board.”
Applications are open to permanent South Australian public school teachers who have taught in the public education system for at least three years.
Successful applicants will begin studying a Masters degree next year.
Scholarship applications close on Monday, 31 August 2015 at 5pm.
