Better infrastructure for schools

There has been recent parent and media interest in the capacity of our western suburbs schools.

Read what Ross Treadwell, Executive Director Infrastructure has to say about this matter:

“We are continually transforming South Australia’s public schools through every redevelopment and improvement we do to provide students and staff with quality infrastructure. 

“We have been working with principals of Paringa Park, St Leonards, Glenelg, Warradale and Brighton Primary Schools to implement a Partnership Capacity Management Plan.

“This will see schools proactively working together to collaboratively manage enrolment processes.

“We are also increasing the enrolment capacity of St Leonards Primary School to help ease enrolment pressure. 

“The department has provided St Leonards with a dedicated STEM facility and is in the process of delivering a dual transportable building which, once operational, will increase the school’s enrolment capacity.

“Some year levels are temporarily using the gym as their learning area while the additional accommodation is being prepared and construction works occur. 

“Architects were engaged early this year to begin the process of commissioning the building for use. 

“The formal documentation process, which includes engineering, quantity surveying, and obtaining State Commission Assessment Panel approval, is generally a 16-20 week process.

“The process includes connecting the building to services such as water and electricity and making the require upgrades, such as access ramps, to ensure it complies with the current Disability Discrimination Act.

“A tender process is then implemented to engage a builder to undertake the works outlined by the architect. 

“We endeavour to deliver additional accommodation to St Leonards Primary School as soon as is practical, in line with achieving all legislative and approval requirements.  

“We anticipate the building will be ready for occupation by the end of August 2018”.
