More support for EALD students

10 February 2020

Educators in SA government schools now have access to professional development that will help them support Aboriginal students who are learning Standard Australian English (SAE) as an additional language.

The English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) Hub is a national online professional development resource that aims to provide high-quality education to Aboriginal students through improved information sharing amongst educators and other education decision makers.

The EALD Hub will ensure educators have greater knowledge and are able to include students’ cultures and first languages in the learning process, while being explicit about learning Standard Australian English for success at school.

The EALD Hub is a key initiative of the Aboriginal Education Strategy 2019-2029, and a recommended resource in the School Improvement Literacy Guide Books.

All Department for Education staff can access the EALD Hub - teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander EALD learners professional development online.
