New Whyalla school build tenders

24 July 2019

A number of local industries will converge at the Whyalla Palms Function Centre today to learn how they can be involved in building the new $100 million Whyalla secondary school.

The local industry briefing led by the Department for Education and Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and in conjunction with the Office of the Industry Advocate and Department for Innovation and Skills, will provide an opportunity for local industries to meet the project team before the tender commences and maximize local involvement.

Shortlisted contractors for the build, Built Pty Ltd, Lend Lease Pty Ltd and Sarah Constructions Pty Ltd, will each have a representative where local subcontractors will be able to talk to them about what services they can provide before the tender process commences later this year.

The build will provide contemporary learning environments for students by combining Edward John Eyre, Stuart and Whyalla high schools, the existing three government high school campuses in the region.

The shortlisted contractors will submit a tender later this year.

The new school is expected to be complete for the first students to commence in term 1, 2022.
Cox Architecture and Thomson Rossi won the contract to design the new school in 2018. The build is being managed by the State Government as a capital works project through a competitive tender process.

An ICN web portal has been established and to date over 80 businesses have registered.
The new school will be located on Nicolson Avenue in Whyalla Norrie in between the UniSA and TAFE campuses, forming an education precinct to provide students with strong links to further study options.
