The Australian Education Union’s South Australian branch has informed us of the intention to take strike action on Monday 1 July.
As a result, a number of teachers, preschool staff and support staff will not work on that day.
The impact this has on public schools and preschools will vary.
While many will remain open and operate as normal, the action will result in some closing because there will be insufficient staff on duty to ensure adequate standards of safety and welfare.
Some schools and preschools will be able to open with reduced staff numbers by offering a modified learning program (ie supervision but not normal classes).
Principals and directors will be writing to parents and carers to let them know what will happen at their child’s school or preschool as soon as they have been able to assess the full impact of the action on staffing levels.
A full list of closures will be published on the Department for Education website and Facebook page on Friday 28 June.
The department is working with principals and directors to minimise disruption and every effort is being made to keep schools and preschools open if at all possible.
If you have any questions about what is happening at your child’s school or preschool, please contact them directly.
