Education law reform

Education and Children’s Services Act 2019

The Education and Children’s Services Act 2019 (the Act) passed Parliament on 1 August 2019.

Once in force, the Act will replace the Education Act 1972 and the Children's Services Act 1985. It will provide a contemporary framework for the delivery of high-quality children's services and compulsory education in South Australia.

The Delivering better schools infographic (PDF 432KB) highlights some of the benefits of the Act.

Draft regulations to support the Act

We have released draft regulations to support the implementation of the new Act.

The regulations primarily guide how our schools, preschools and children’s services operate and set out conditions of employment for government teachers. However, a number of the regulations also deal with matters relevant to non-government schools and providers of approved learning programs.

Provide feedback on the draft regulations

Anyone interested in or impacted by the new legislation is invited to comment on the draft regulations.

To submit feedback, or to download a copy of the draft regulations, please visit the Government of South Australia’s YourSAy online consultation hub.

Consultation closes 5.00pm Friday 3 April 2020.

This page will be updated to reflect progress and outcomes of the consultation.
