A chance to say thanks to our volunteers
National Volunteer Week provides the department with an opportunity to say a very special thank you to our caring, creative, diverse and generous volunteers. In 2019 we once again celebrated and recognised our volunteers in a number of ways.
From Monday 20 May to Friday 24 May 2019, several activities were held in our gallery in 31 Flinders St Adelaide.
This included a:
• photo exhibition by children, students and staff to show what volunteering means to them
• sausage sizzle by the Rotary Club of Burnside
• free coffee morning with the students from the Workabout Centre.
We also walked in the annual National Volunteer Week parade through the streets of Adelaide.
A couple of special invitation-only events, including a volunteer morning tea and a wellbeing and resilience workshop were also held.

Many schools, preschools and care centres also hosted their own volunteer thank you events. Volunteers were recognised with awards, like the Minister for Education Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
We’d love to hear how you make a difference as a volunteer, so get in contact and let us know.
About our volunteers
The department has more than 25,000 volunteers who give their time and talents to help children and young people learn and grow.
Our volunteers are parents, family, caregivers and people from the community. They bring their life skills, expertise, knowledge and diversity to our schools, preschools and children's centres.
