How to register your interest for secondary school in 2023

Registration of interest for secondary school in 2023 is now open.

Registration is for students in year 6 who are starting secondary school in 2023.

Students at government primary schools

Step 1

Make sure your child’s primary school has your current email address and your child’s correct residential address. Contact your primary school to update.

These details are used for the ‘registration of interest form’ and to determine your child’s local school.

You will need to supply proof of residence documents to your primary school if you want to make any changes to the address details on the registration of interest form.

Step 2

Families with students enrolled at government primary schools will receive a unique URL (or web address) by email from their primary school. The URL is sent to the person who has legal responsibility for the child and can only be submitted once.

Use this URL to access your online registration of interest form and nominate the public secondary school you want your child to attend in 2023. You can nominate up to 3 schools.

Complete and submit the registration of interest form by Friday 27 May 2022.

Paper forms are available from your primary school if you cannot access the internet.

You will receive an enrolment offer between Wednesday 10 August and Friday 12 August 2022.

For children enrolled at non-government schools please email questions about registration of interest, enrolment, proof of residence or policy queries to education.startingsecondaryschool@sa.gov.au.

Offers for enrolment

After the registration of interest process, you will receive an offer from the secondary school which your child has been allocated. You will receive the offer between Wednesday 10 August and Friday 12 August 2022.

The ‘allocation pack’ will be sent by email and includes:

  • the offer
  • enrolment form
  • any related documentation which the school requires you to complete and return.

Hardcopy packs will be available from your allocated secondary school for those not able to complete online.

You must follow the enrolment instructions in the allocation pack to secure your child’s place. This includes completing the enrolment form online and providing all requested documents. You should do this by the date provided in the offer to make sure your offer does not lapse.

Information about how to accept your enrolment offer will be available in term 3.

How offers are allocated

Every effort is made to place students in the preferred order of secondary schools from your registration of interest.

If the number of applications exceeds the places available at the school, students may be allocated to 1 of the other schools nominated or their zoned/local school.

If your allocated secondary school is not your first choice, the offer for enrolment will also include information about how to request a review of the decision.
