Safe environments – Through their eyes training has been developed by the department to assist organisations providing services to children and young people to support their staff and volunteers to recognise, report and respond to children or young people who may be at risk of harm and build their capacity to provide safe environments within the organisation.
Organisations should consider requiring their staff and volunteers that work with children and young people attend a Safe environments training course.
The training is available through a range of public providers. The trainers on the providers list have been trained by the department's Child safe environments (CSE) training team and offer 1 day and 3 hour refresher face to face Safe environments training. This training is accessed for a fee.
Please refer to the Safe environments – Through their eyes public provider list (PDF 362KB) for further information.
To become a Safe environments trainer, you will need to attend a 3 day train the trainer session.
Participants are expected to have at a minimum a moderate level of confidence to deliver training to small-to-medium sized groups. Participants should also be aware of the emotive nature of this topic and be confident in delivering such a topic in a supportive, yet professional approach. Attendance at all 3 days is required.
To register your interest, simply email education.csetraining [at] sa.gov.au to be placed on a wait list for the next session.
Existing Safe environments trainers should contact the Child safe environments team to:
- access training resources and participant hand outs
- maintain approved trainer status
- update personal details.
It is important that the integrity and quality of the delivery of the Safe environments training is protected. If you have any concerns regarding the quality of a trainer please do not hesitate to contact the team.
