2018 National Volunteer Week celebrations

A chance to say thanks to our volunteers

During National Volunteer Week, our department said thank you to our amazing volunteers by having some activities in our gallery to showcase the role volunteers play in our schools, preschools and children’s centres.

From Monday 21 May to Friday 25 May 2018, we had displays and activities, including:

  • exhibition of children and students’ creative tributes to our volunteers, Monday 21 to Friday 25 May
  • sausage sizzle, 11.00am to 2.00pm, Wednesday 23 May
  • free coffee morning, 9.00am to 11.30am, Friday 25 May
  • annual National Volunteer Week parade, 10.00am to 12.30pm, Monday 21 May.

We had a couple of special invitation-only events, including a volunteer morning tea and a wellbeing and resilience workshop.

It was a great way to see what our volunteers do and how they make a difference to children and young people. We’d love to hear how you make a difference as a volunteer, so get in contact and let us know.

About our volunteers

The department has more than 25,000 volunteers who give their time and talents to help children and young people learn and grow.

Our volunteers are parents, family, caregivers and people from the community. They bring their life skills, expertise, knowledge and diversity to our schools, preschools and children's centres.

Our volunteers help in so many ways. It’s good to volunteer with us – maybe you could help too. To apply you need to contact the site you want to help.
