About the webisode

‘Early Career Teachers: Preparing for the Profession’ tells the story of a group of early career teachers working in the Barossa Valley during their first year out of university.

At Nuriootpa High School, Simon Baker is mentored by colleague Giles Bartram and Tracy Warner from Kapunda High School. Simon is involved in a classroom observation where his mentor skilfully coaxes Simon’s reflection on his practice to build on his professional identity.

Mentor Kylie Bussenschutt at Tanunda Primary School leads a reflective discussion with a group of early career teachers from her site as part of the school’s ongoing induction process to support new teachers as they start out in the profession.

Tanunda Primary School is located on the outskirts of Tanunda. The school motto, 'Together we achieve', reflects the spirit of Tanunda Primary School. The school places great importance on developing positive partnerships with the school community by being friendly and approachable, and valuing and encouraging family involvement in their child's education.

Learning programs extend beyond the classroom and students have opportunities to follow their interests and to challenge and extend themselves through special programs such as environmental, garden, mosaics and science clubs; lunchtime sports, peer mediation, instrumental music and choir. The Tanunda Disability Unit is co-located on our school site and is for students with severe intellectual and multiple physical disabilities. This regional facility is an integral and valued part of the school which willingly and actively supports inclusion programs for students from the Disability Unit.

Nuriootpa High School is a public high school with a student population of over 840 students (years 8 to 12). We are located in Nuriootpa, a township within the Barossa Valley region in the state of South Australia.

The school services the broad Barossa Valley region from towns such as Dutton and Truro in the north, Moculta, Keyneton and Eden Valley in the east, Rosedale and Greenock in the west, Nuriootpa, Angaston and Tanunda in the centre and Lyndoch and Cockatoo Valley in the south.

The school has a long history of successful achievement in all areas of learning and in a range of extra curricular activities including sports, music, drama and agriculture. A strength of the school is the breadth and depth of its curriculum and the availability of a wide range of extra curricular activities that cater for the interests and needs of students.
