On 22 May 2018 we took the first step to negotiate a new enterprise agreement for our education staff and provided our people with the Notice of Intention to Negotiate (PDF 55KB) an Enterprise Agreement under the Fair Work Act 1994.
Our department understands the importance of enterprise bargaining to our people and it’s why they have been at the centre of our negotiations.
We know that creating positive conditions for our staff will allow them to continue to focus on supporting the achievements of our children and young people.
After a significant negotiation process, in late 2019 the Australian Education Union (AEU) undertook a ballot of its members on a revised offer for a new enterprise agreement. A majority of AEU members voted in support of this offer and it was then accepted by the AEU and Public Service Association (PSA).
The AEU ballot is an internal union process to inform whether they support the offer. We now need to conduct a ballot of all employees covered by the enterprise agreement. A majority of employees must support the enterprise agreement for it to be lodged with the South Australian Employment Tribunal (SAET), as required under the Fair Work Act 1994 (SA).
All employees, regardless of union membership, will be invited to vote on the proposed new enterprise agreement in a ballot in term 1 2020.
