Eddie Betts is excited to come on board this year as the ambassador for the Public Education Awards and understands the hard work that goes into mentoring and teaching children and young people so they can be their best.
While he is known for his flair on the football field playing for the Adelaide Crows, off the field Eddie is incredibly passionate about facilitating positive change in the community. He has a focus on providing support to youth and is a strong advocate for education.
An inspirational role model for young people, Eddie supports students with their education, assists them with achieving their sporting dreams and is currently developing his own foundation to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth to complete secondary school.
Eddie has worked nationally and internationally with charities, including organising a project in a remote Fijian community to assist with the build of a new education and learning space for the children in the community. The kindergarten is now named "The Eddie Betts Kindergarten" and he is very proud of this achievement and the impact it will have on the community.
Eddie spent this off season visiting schools from Adelaide to Alice Springs, chatting with kids about the importance of education, attendance at school and being appreciative of the people who support us in school. Eddie has a certificate in education and has worked as a support teacher in secondary schools. He wants every kid, everywhere and of every background to be educated.
Eddie is eager to share how important the people working in public education are to creating the best educational outcomes for all kids.
Eddie says, “Show how much you value the dedication and contribution of a person or team in your local school, preschool, children’s centre and wider department because it’s these people who are working hard to support and build a successful future for you and for all South Australian kids.”
“It has been a pleasure to be the ambassador for the 2018 Public Education Awards and to see some of the exceptional staff in public education rewarded for their commitment to their very important roles. I loved going out to the schools and surprising a few of the finalists who have made such a big difference to their students’ lives. I want to congratulate all the finalists and winners on the job they do for public education.”
