World class education by 2028
Growth for every student in every class in every school
South Australian students deserve a great education. That’s why we are working to make South Australian public education world-class by 2028.
Strategic Plan
The department’s Strategic Plan (PDF 2MB) describes how we will achieve a world-class education system to make sure all children and young people reach their potential.
Towards world-class
We plan to make South Australia’s public education world-class by 2028.
Here are some of the ways we’re making that happen.
School improvement
Every school and preschool has developed a 3-year plan for improvement.
The plans show where each school will focus its efforts to achieve growth for every student.
Strategies
Aboriginal Education Strategy
We want every Aboriginal child and young person to achieve their highest potential.
Music Education Strategy
Give all students access to high-quality music education.
Entrepreneurial Learning Strategy
Encourage students to learn, practice and use their enterprise skills in every area of the curriculum.
International Education Strategy
Support our students to develop knowledge and abilities to be successful in a diverse and globally connected world.
Languages Strategy
Reinvigorate the study of languages in South Australian schools.
Orbis – exemplary learning for educators
Orbis delivers the very best professional learning to our teachers and leaders.
World-class providers such as the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Melbourne deliver our programs.
Orbis offers programs in literacy, numeracy and instructional leadership, as well as the Leadership for School Excellence program.
Capital projects
A major $1.3 billion investment in better school facilities will upgrade more than 100 schools and preschools.
We’re building 3 new schools in Angle Vale, Aldinga and Whyalla to accommodate the increasing student numbers in public schools.
A new government high school will open in Goolwa in 2022.

High speed internet for schools and preschools
We’re connecting public schools and preschools to high-speed fibre optic cable.
Every public school, teacher, and student will have access to high-speed, reliable internet, at the speed they need, when they need it – regardless of location. This is one of the biggest information technology projects we’ve ever taken on.
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
We’re working with industry to strengthen the connection between VET delivered to school students and employer needs.
We’re aligning vocational pathways to future jobs, piloting flexible apprenticeships, and providing better career education to help prepare students for the workforce and further education.
