Develop your capability as a secondary school science specialist. The Science 7-9 program is co-designed with and delivered by the University of Melbourne. The program deepens your understanding of the conceptual framework of the  science 7-9 curriculum. Throughout the program, you will explore ways to engage students meaningfully in science and build their scientific inquiry skills.

The highlights for me were the depth at which the facilitators made me go into in the specific areas of the curriculum. The sessions challenged my thinking and my practice. They showed me new ways to approach student learning and strengthened my knowledge of the important role modelling has in science.

Program overview

The approach aims to build your content and pedagogical knowledge specific to science, as well as confidence in teaching 7-9 science. The program will highlight one of the science disciplines each day, clearly drawing out the concepts and inquiry skills of each discipline. Through a strategic selection of activities, you’ll collaborate on, experience and apply skills and quality pedagogies – this includes practical work in science laboratories. The program will deepen your conceptual understanding of science while providing you with ways to engage students meaningfully in science across the middle years.
