The masterclass is a workshop about mandatory notifications and child protection in education.
It's part 2 of Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) training for specific staff who work with children and young people.
Course details
Course type: facilitator-led workshop (in person or online)
Running time: 4 hours
Minimum requirements: You must complete the fundamentals course before you can book a masterclass.
Access course
- Login to Plink and select the Masterclass tile on the Plink Dashboard to open the catalogue. New non-department users can create a login.
- Choose a training provider and book a session. Sessions are listed in date order. You can compare the price, location and delivery mode then select one that suits you. Each training organisation will have instructions about how to pay and confirm your booking.
Suitable for
This course is for specific staff who:
- are new and work directly with children and young people
- have an expired certificate and who work directly with children and young people. See keeping your RRHAN-EC current to find out if your certificate has expired.
Specific staff include:
- principals and directors
- teachers (including pre-service teachers)
- site admin staff
- school services officers (SSOs)
- education support officers (ESOs) – non-government schools
- early childhood workers (ECWs)
- swimming and aquatics instructors
- music instructors
- groundskeepers
- hourly paid instructors
- OSHC workers
- allied health professionals
- tertiary students on professional placements in a school or preschool
- boarding facilities workers
- counsellors
- chaplains, pastoral care workers or student wellbeing support officers
- paid apprentices or trainees
- family day care workers.
If your role changes to include work with children or young people, you will need to do a masterclass. For example, if you’re volunteering then get a role at a school, you must complete the masterclass.
Not suitable for
The following do not need to do the masterclass:
- staff with a current certificate who need to update (you can do the online update course in Plink instead)
- volunteers
- governing council members
- school board members
- work experience students (not paid or employed)
- tertiary students on professional placements (not pre-service teachers or student placements in a school or preschool)
- bus drivers
- canteen workers
- people bridging from the full day Safe Environments – Through Their Eyes training completed in the last 3 years
- corporate staff who do not work with children and young people
- sector office education staff (non-government schools) who do not work with children and young people.
