Joining your school or preschool's council

Things to think about – what’s involved

If you’re thinking of joining the council at your school or preschool (site), there are a few things you might want to think about, including:

How to join your site’s council

You might see a note in your site’s newsletter talking about an upcoming annual general meeting or election for a governing council or school council. When you do, talk to someone who is currently on the council. You’ll find about the process and also how things work at your site. You can also talk to the principal or preschool director about getting nominated and elected.

Other ways to get involved – volunteering

You might not have the time needed to be on a council but still want to help out at your child's school or preschool. One way to help could be to volunteer to be on a committee. Your site's council will work with a number of different committees. How many and what they do can be different at each site.

You can talk to your local principal or preschool director to find out how you can help. You can also find out more about volunteering in schools and preschools.
