Balharry Memorial Children’s Centre to increase capacity

27 October 2023

Expansion work of more than $1.8m is underway at Balharry Memorial Children’s Centre in Lucindale to increase capacity at the site.

Located in the heart of Lucindale, the kindergarten has a long history – first established in 1971 when it was run from the RSL building, before moving into the old school house, a building which dates back to 1927.

Contractors began on site this week, to extend the existing building to accommodate more students. It’s anticipated the project will be completed in March next year. The facility also accommodates Rural Care, which provides childcare for children from 0 to 12 years of age.

Balharry Memorial Community Centre Director, Sile Legoe said that Balharry Memorial Community Centre has a strong sense of community, and they are incredibly excited to the work get underway this week.

“The increased capacity of the building will mean that our kindergarten enrolments will not affect the number of children that are able to access our Rural Care service, which is vital for families living in our community who would otherwise be limited in their ability to work.”
