Water safety program

The Department for Education water safety program is a curriculum-based program supporting the development of water safety skills and knowledge on and around the water. It is part of the health and physical learning area of the Australian curriculum framework.

The program has swimming, surf education, and aquatics components for students from reception to year 12, and a personalised water safety program for students with disabilities. The program is run at a range of council, school and privately owned pools, beaches, lakes and aquatics centres across the state. It is staffed by fully qualified instructors employed by the department.
