Sport in South Australian schools is managed through a 2 tiered committee structure. This is an overview of the different bodies.
Management committees
School Sport Committee
This committee oversees the management committee and coordinates an intergraded approach to the organisation and delivery of school sport in South Australia.
The department's school sport committee is made up of:
- department director responsible for school sport (chair)
- department sport and water safety manager
- school sport management committee (SSMC) SAPPA representative
- school sport management committee (SSMC) SASPA representative
- one representative from the school sport management committee as agreed in the SSMC terms of reference
- school sport team leader
- school sport assistant team leader.
School Sport Management Committee (SSMC)
The management committee includes:
- co-chairperson (primary school principal endorsed by SASPA)
- co-chairperson (secondary school principal endorsed by SASPA)
- School Sport SA team leader
- School Sport SA assistant team leader
- department sport and water safety manager
- one representative from the school sport team other than the team leader or assistant team leader
- one metropolitan convenor representative
- one country convenor representative
- one non-government school sport representative (catholic or independent or Christian school)
- one department school sport primary representative who works in some capacity in the School Sport SA program
- one department school sport secondary representative who works in some capacity in the School Sport SA program.
The last 5 positions cannot be represented by a member of the School Sport Team.
One member from this committee is selected to represent the management committee on the school sport committee for a term of 1 year. This representative is chosen from the metro and country convenor and the primary and secondary representatives. They are selected by ballot at the first committee meeting for the year.
