Overview

The ‘MyGolf Students with Disability Golf Day’ is aimed at giving children with disability the chance to learn the basics of golf in a safe and fun environment. Throughout the day, the combination of safe and easy-to-use modified equipment along with the games-based approach to learning and activities create a fantastic environment for children with disability to start their love of the game and hopefully develop a long-lasting connection.

Structure

Participants will rotate through set activities which cover the basics of the game. These include full swing, chipping and putting.

Schools can choose to arrive for golf session 1, 2, or 3 and participate in a minimum of 3 sessions, maximum of 5 sessions. Each session will involve a different game.

  • 9.45am-10.30am - Golf session 1
  • 10.35am-11.20am - Golf Session 2
  • 11.25am-12.10pm - Golf session 3
  • Lunch (35mins)
  • 12.45pm-1.30pm - Golf session 4
  • 1.35pm-2.20pm - Golf session 5

All sessions will be conducted by All-Abilities Accredited Golf Australia staff, PGA Professionals along with Accredited Community Instructors and School Sport SA Staff.

Equipment

All equipment will be supplied. We’ll use modified equipment for the entirety of the sessions as it’s a lot safer to use, easier to use and more fun to use.

Key outcomes

The ‘MyGolf Students with a Disability Golf Day’ is not just about the day itself, it’s the starting point for a multitude of things including:

  • Schools pathway - the day can be used to encourage schools to engage with the Sporting Schools program to run golf programs each term or it can add further value to those schools already involved in Sporting Schools.
  • The development of positive experiences for children with disability to become active in community sport and develop positive attitudes towards golf.
  • The event can break down multiple barriers to participation and change the misconception that golf is not accessible to all.
