Professional experience placements in SA government schools, preschools and centres

On this page

To complete your professional experience placements you need to meet:

  • working with children check requirements
  • child protection mandatory notification training requirements.

All parties involved in workplace experiences should be aware of any policies, procedures and requirements for each type of placement before attending the site.

Working with children check requirements

The following are required to have a working with children check (WWCC) if placed in centres, schools and preschools to complete or support the workplace experience:

  • undergraduate and postgraduate students (including international students)
  • pre-service teachers
  • university placement or liaison officer.

The WWCC must be current for the duration of any centre, school or preschool placement and presented to the site leader (or delegate) before any placement can begin.

A new WWCC must be obtained from the Department for Human Services (DHS) Screening unit every 5 years. It is the responsibility of the tertiary student and supervisor to follow-up WWCC applications after 5 years. Current, valid child-related employment screening checks done by DHS/DCSI will be recognised as a WWCC until they expire.

See the DHS Screening unit to get your check.

Mandatory notification training requirements

All tertiary students seeking a professional experience placement in schools and preschools must provide evidence (a certificate) that they have completed the appropriate Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training.
