The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) describe the elements of high quality, effective teaching.
Designed by teachers for teachers, the APST serves as a public statement of teacher quality and a nationally consistent reference and description of the teaching role.
There are 3 domains of teaching:
- professional knowledge
- professional practice
- professional engagement.
The APST are integral in performance and development planning and help teachers to self-reflect and self-assess themselves.
Recognising their current and developing capabilities helps teachers to identify their professional aspirations and learning goals and establish professional development plans.
