When determining to seek emergency assistance (ambulance) for children and students, staff should refer to the Health support planning guidelines (staff login required). Staff should not use a private vehicle to transport individuals unless on the advice of the ambulance service communication centre and an additional staff member should travel in the vehicle to supervise and assist the injured person.
Students and volunteers
Ambulance costs are primarily the responsibility of the individual or their caregiver. Those who are covered under private ambulance cover should contact their insurer to recover costs.
Where a student/child or volunteer does not have private cover, a request for payment by the department can be made online by completing the online ambulance claim form. Requests will be assessed by the Claims Manager to determine whether they meet the department’s criteria for payment to be made.
Visitors to departmental sites are responsible for their own ambulance costs.
