The South Australian Teaching for Effective Learning (TfEL) describes the department’s position on teaching and learning practices that lead to improved student engagement and achievement.

Together with the new Australian Curriculum, the TfEL framework provides the basis for the ongoing development of teaching and learning practices in South Australia.

TfEL framework overviews

The TfEL framework overviews cover:

  • the four domains and their associated elements
  • the essence statement for each element
  • indicators for each element
  • implications for leaders' own learning and their leadership role.

Tfel Three big ideas

The TfEL Three big ideas handout (PDF 566 KB) is a quick guide for teachers designing learning that improves learner engagement, challenge and achievement.

It summarises domains 2, 3 and 4 of the TfEL framework guide (see below) and poses questions to help teachers reflect on classroom practice.

The TfEL framework guide supports leaders and teachers to put the TfEL framework into practice.

The guide covers:

  • the four TfEL domains and TfEL elements
  • the essence statement for each element
  • indicators for each element and implications for leaders’ own learning and their leadership role.

TfEL review tools handbook

SA TfEL review tools handbook - tools and processes for reviewing and reflecting on teaching practice. Use the resource with colleagues and students, and in learning conversations to develop a snap-shot of practice at a school level.

TfEL Compass

The TfEL Compass is an online professional learning tool for teachers to reflect on their teaching and learning practices.

TfEL pilot

The TfEL pilot positions students as partners to improve teaching and learning outcomes in South Australian government schools. It includes a suite of resources to support the activation of student voice in learning.
