Getting past school results

How to access South Australian student school records and reports.

Contact your last school

Contact the last school you attended to request your records.

Search for the school contact details.

When you contact them, you’ll need to provide:

  • your full name as it was during your time at school
  • date of birth
  • photo ID
  • years that you were at the school.

If records aren't available from your last school

If the school cannot give you your records or is closed, you can complete the online form – request a copy of your student records. You’ll need to include proof of identity with your form.

Historical records

If you’re looking for historical student records we may not be able to locate them. Since 2005, the department has been able to legally destroy records 7 years after a student finishes school, or when the student is 25 years old, whichever is later.

Apply for other records

If you want to access information other than your student records, you’ll need to apply under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

Freedom of information (FOI) requests

Requesting records for another person

If you’re requesting records for another person (such as lawyers or non-government agencies) you will need to:

  • complete the online form – request a copy of your student records
  • state you're acting on behalf of the individual
  • provide current written authority and identification of the person whose records are needed
  • include the full name that they used when at school, date of birth, school names and years of attendance.

Requesting records for your child if they're under 18 years old

If you’re requesting records for your child under 18 years of age, you’ll need to:

  • complete the online form – request a copy of your student records
  • clearly state the records you need
  • give evidence of your relationship – this could be current Medicare card with applicant’s name and the name of the person under 18 years old, or a birth certificate
  • include your photo ID.

If your child is older than 18, refer to the process for requesting records for another person above.

Proof of enrolment – admission registers

You can access the School’s Admission Register from State Records of South Australia. Admission registers are open for general access 30 years after school attendance.

Education and Employment – State Records of South Australia has more information.

Records at non-government schools

We don't hold records from non-government schools.

You'll need to contact the school you attended. If the school is closed, contact the relevant association:
