Freedom of information (FOI) requests

On this page

The Freedom of Information Act 1991 allows you to seek access to documents held by the Department for Education.

The Act also allows you to request an amendment to information about you that you believe is incomplete, incorrect, out-of-date or misleading.

Our Freedom of Information statement (PDF 241 KB) provides more information about the department, the types of documents held and how to access them. For more information, read below.

Making an FOI application

Access and amendment applications can be made online using the online Freedom of Information application form.

Or you can download and complete the individual hardcopy forms below:

Refer to the department’s Freedom of Information statement (PDF 241 KB) for other methods of submitting an FOI application.

Application fees

There are fees and charges for requesting an FOI with a SA government agency.

For latest fees and charges, refer to the 'Act (Fees)' section at the bottom of Freedom of Information Act 1991.

There may be exceptions if you are a concession card holder or member of parliament. For details, refer to the Freedom of Information (Fees and Charges) Regulations 2018.

Proof of identity and consent

If you are seeking a document relating to your personal affairs, the department may request proof of your identity.

If you request a document on behalf of another person, the department may ask that person to provide proof of their identity and sign a consent form.

Processing applications

The department has up to 30 calendar days to process your written application once it's received.

In some cases, it may be necessary to extend the time limit for processing your application. The department will notify you if this is the case.

Requesting a review

If you are refused access to all or part of a document that you requested access to, you will be informed of the reasons why and advised of your rights to seek a review or appeal.

You can also seek a review or appeal if you have applied for your personal records to be amended under FOI and the amendment has been refused.

Complete the internal review application form (DOC 57KB) to request a review.
