A further $14.3m investment for SA school upgrades

Ten public preschools and schools have been granted additional funding by the State Government.

Among the ten schools to receive funding is Seaview Downs Primary School, which is receiving additional funding to get a major upgrade project worth $19.3m.

With more than 300 students, the southern suburbs school, has received an additional $4.3m for the construction of several new buildings to deliver modern, high-quality classrooms and learning areas to get the best education.

The project will also include a new administration building and the demolition of ageing infrastructure.

It’s expected construction will begin in January 2024, once a builder has been appointed.

Seaview Downs Primary School Principal Sam Winters said the school community is eagerly anticipating the start of this exciting redevelopment project in the new year.

“With new, modern facilities, our teachers can continue to deliver a high-quality learning program for our students in spaces that have been designed with collaboration and flexibility in mind.”

Funding for a major upgrade at Fregon Anangu School in the APY Lands has also been increased to almost $21m for the construction of several new buildings for junior, primary and secondary teaching and learning along with new food technology and administration facilities – with an additional $1.5m added to the project.

The existing art building will also be refurbished along with landscaping and new paved areas.

Additionally, John Pirie Secondary School in Port Pirie has received an extra $1.25m for its almost $12m redevelopment project, which includes upgrades to the Powerhouse Theatre, and two new middle school buildings.

Key features of the upgrade also included a new car park with disability access, landscaping to new and refurbished areas and demolition of ageing infrastructure.

Additional funding has also been granted to:

  • Seaview High School: an additional $1.9m to deliver a $17.65m upgrade which includes a new performing arts facility, STEM facilities, a new 2-story creative design building and the demolition of ageing infrastructure.
  • Belair Primary School: an additional $1.5m to deliver a $6.5m upgrade of learning areas and student and staff amenities.
  • Elliston RSL Memorial Children’s Centre: extra $1.4m added to deliver a $3.4m project moving the Elliston RSL Memorial Children’s Centre to the school site.
  • Springbank Secondary College: an additional $1.2m to deliver a $11.55m upgrade which includes a refurbished main building of contemporary learning spaces and new disability unit classes, a refurbishment to the gymnasium amenities, demolition of ageing infrastructure and a new covered outdoor area.
  • Murray Bridge North School: an additional $580k to deliver a $5.48m project for two new outdoor learning areas, an improved school entrance, landscaping and refurbishment of learning spaces.
  • Reidy Park Primary School: an additional $330k to deliver a $5.33m upgrade which includes a new outdoor covered area, the redevelopment of play spaces, and the refurbishment of learning areas.
  • Cummins Area School: an additional $298k to deliver a $4.3m upgrade delivering a new technology studies, art and general learning areas building, landscaping and an upgraded administration area.
