Facility upgrade at Urrbrae Agricultural High School

31 July 2024

Urrbrae Agricultural High School’s $10 million facility upgrade has been officially opened.

The building program, which reached completion in December 2021, included the construction of two new buildings and the refurbishment of the school’s gym.

As the only special interest agricultural secondary school in South Australia, Urrbrae Agricultural High School is recognised as a centre of excellence in agriculture, science, agri-tech and environmental studies.

Students now have access to a new building that features 3 classrooms for food technology classes, including 2 large kitchens and 3 new physical education and health classrooms.

Adjacent to the building is a new agricultural learning square with netting-covered vegetable gardens for the students to grow their own produce.

A second building, with 8 classrooms and a sound-proofed music room, was constructed to accommodate the school’s junior students.

The refurbished gym has allowed for additional seating to be installed, giving the school the ability to hold whole-school assemblies for their 1,145 students across years 7 to 12.

Located in metropolitan Adelaide, south-east of the CBD, the school sits on a 40-hectare farm, and students also have access to a dedicated wetland.

In addition to the building works, new sheep yards have been installed at the school and a new boundary fence is currently under construction as part of the State Government’s upgrade of Fullarton and Cross roads.

Urrbrae Agricultural High School Principal Todd George said, the new buildings and facility upgrade at our school have been a welcome addition for students and staff.

“We pride ourselves on being a ‘city school with a country feel’, and these new purpose-built facilities are giving our students more hands-on learning opportunities, whether that’s cooking in home economics or growing their own produce”.
