New buses delivered to regional schools

27 February 2026

Four new buses have been delivered to regional public schools across South Australia.

The buses have arrived at Ardrossan Area School, Wudinna Area School, Kadina Memorial School and Cleve Area School.

Over the next 6 months, new Volvo buses will be delivered to various regional schools across the state to replace the existing fleet.

Last year, the Department for Education signed a $16 million contract with Volvo Group Australia to supply 28 new large school buses and 4 of those buses have now been delivered.

The new 57-seat automatic diesel buses help provide safe and reliable transportation for about 15,000 public school students across South Australia. With one of the new buses being wheelchair accessible.

The new buses compliment the department's existing fleet size of around 180 buses.

The buses feature the Volvo B8R Euro 6 Chassis with a Volgren Endura Body and are equipped with highly efficient engines, featuring advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems that significantly reduce harmful emissions.

They have advanced safety features, including a fire suppression system, child-check alarm, UHF radio, GPS and CCTV while also including driver support systems like collision warning and emergency brake, telematics, and lane keeping support.

The department’s Chief Operating Officer, Chris Bernardi, said the new Volvo Australia buses are more efficient and sustainable.

“They not only provide a safe and reliable ride but are contributing to a greener school community”, said Mr Bernardi.

“The uplift in the number of new buses in operation at public schools reflects the department’s commitment to supporting our students in regional areas”.

Maintenance of the new buses will be handled by South Central Truck and Bus, Volvo’s local authorised dealer in Adelaide and regional service garages will undertake mandatory maintenance.
