Point Pearce School’s bright future secured
The Point Pearce campus of the Central Yorke School, in the Aboriginal community of Point Pearce on the Yorke Peninsula, has been granted independence from the area school.
This will see it operate autonomously as a stand-alone primary school from 2027.
The new school, which will offer preschool to year 6, will support the community’s strong connection to the school and its desire for autonomy in their educational decisions – securing the school’s long-term future.
The potential independence of the site has been under discussion with the Minister for Education for several years, led by Narungga Elder Eddie Newchurch, and has seen the Department for Education conduct a full evaluation of the available options this year.
The department will work closely with the student and parent community of Point Pearce to support the design of a learning program that suits the Point Pearce local community.
