Special education hub officially opens at Ceduna Area School

12 September 2025

Ceduna Area School has a new special education hub dedicated to providing inclusive education to students with special needs.

The new $4.5 million facility, specifically designed for students with special needs, offers high-quality, flexible learning spaces with room to accommodate up to three classes. There is also a new outdoor play area, designed to meet the diverse functional needs of the students.

The special education hub’s two classes previously shared a building with the community library, located on the school site.

The establishment of a special education hub has allowed the school to free up space in the library which is accessed by the wider Ceduna community.

Ceduna Area School caters for students from Reception to Year 12 and has about 440 students, with about 11 per cent having additional needs.

The State Government is committed to enhancing Special Options education in South Australia, which is why it invested $14 million to establish new special classes and disability units, ensuring equitable access to education for students with disabilities.

This initiative includes infrastructure projects, process improvements, and collaboration with non-government sectors to implement the Disability Royal Commission's recommendations.

Ceduna Area School Principal Andrew Gravestocks said, at Ceduna Area School, our staff, students and families are incredibly excited about this new special education facility.

"This upgrade has provided us with an inclusive educational environment and the right facilities to meet the needs of all our students."

"By relocating our special education classes from the public library, we can now explore ways to use that space in collaboration with the local community", Mr. Gravestocks said.
