New Goolwa high school

Construction of a new high school in Goolwa is underway. The new high school will open in 2022, accommodating approximately 400 local students, with capacity to increase in line with anticipated growth in the area.

The new school will be located at the former Investigator College site on the corner of Cadell Street and Glendale Grove in Goolwa.

Up to $10 million is being invested to refurbish and upgrade the site, to improve the school’s facilities in readiness to welcome its first students at the beginning of 2022.

The new school will form part of an educational hub for the town, located near Goolwa Primary School and Children’s Centre, delivering a community asset that will support the area as it grows in the coming years.

School name

A shortlist of potential names for the new Goolwa high school was developed, in consultation with an advisory committee.

The school community was asked to vote for their favourite name or suggest other school names via a survey as part of this exciting step towards the opening of the new school.

Community consultation for the name for the new Goolwa high school has closed. We would like to thank the community for contributing to the naming of the new school.

Final approval of the name will be given by the Minister for Education and the Surveyor-General.

The chosen name for the new Goolwa high school will be announced in the coming months.

Enrolment

The new school will open with progressive enrolments from 2022, starting with year 7 and year 8. This means:

  • 2022 – year 7 and 8
  • 2023 – year 7 to 9
  • 2024 – year 7 to 10
  • 2025 – year 7 to 11
  • 2026 – year 7 to 12

By progressively introducing year levels, the school can focus on making sure they are operating smoothly while building towards operating at capacity in a few years’ time.

Enrolment eligibility

Although any families can apply to attend the new school, as the school is likely to be under enrolment pressure initially, priority enrolment will be for local families.

See placement in a school for further information.

Year 7 and 8

The department's statewide transition process for students starting secondary school (year 7 and 8) in 2022 will take place between April and May 2021.

During this time all public primary school students will have the following provided to them by their primary school:

  • transition information
  • online registration of interest form.

Parents whose children are attending non-public schools will be able to download a registration form (visit school enrolment) or collect transition information from their school or local education office.

More information about the application process will be available on the school’s website shortly.
