All Department for Education water safety instructors must hold a current asthma first aid qualification.

This qualification is valid for 3 years.

Asthma first aid courses

Instructors must obtain or update asthma first aid training through one of the following methods.

Online training

Asthma first aid for Schools, Asthma first aid for Sport, and Asthma first aid for Workplaces training courses are available online. 

Any of these courses will suffice. 

Once you’ve completed your training, print your certificate.

Face to face training for individuals

Face to face courses for individuals are available from the Asthma SA office. Call 8238 9300 for more information or to book a session.

Group training sessions

Group sessions are available for groups of 6 to 20 people. Speak to your instructor-in-charge to organise a group session through the Asthma SA office by calling 8238 9300.

When you have completed asthma first aid training

Current instructors who are renewing this qualification must send a copy of their updated certificate to the water safety team.

Instructors applying to work for the water safety team must attach a copy of their certificate to the application checklist.
