A new public secondary school is planned to open in 2028 to meet growing enrolment demand in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

A 10-hectare parcel of land at the corner of Andrews and Petherton roads in Eyre will be the site of a new year 7 to 12 school to be built to accommodate up to 1300 students.

Key features

$155.3 million will be invested in the construction of the new secondary school to create contemporary learning facilities.

The new secondary school will be a community asset, designed to ensure the school is meeting the needs of students for both indoor and outdoor learning environments for years to come.

• design, arts, technology and science building
• community, culture and wellbeing building
• health, fitness and performing arts building
• learning community buildings
• leadership, administration, staff and resource building
• sport fields and hardcourts
• integrated outdoor learning environments.

Enrolment

The department uses a progressive enrolment strategy when opening new schools to ensure a smooth transition for students, staff and the wider community.

The new northern suburbs high school will open with year 7 students in 2028 and progressively add 1 year level each year, reaching its full capacity of up to 1300 students in 2033.

Year 7 enrolment for 2028 will be managed through the statewide transition process.

Zoning

Establishing a new school zone means existing boundaries for neighbouring schools will need to be adjusted to ensure equitable access to public education and maintain sustainable enrolments across the region.

We are inviting the public to provide feedback on the proposed changes to secondary school zoning, including the boundary of the new northern suburbs high school.

Once the consultation closes, all public feedback will be carefully reviewed. Where appropriate, this feedback may inform final adjustments to the proposed boundaries.

The finalised secondary school zone recommendations will then be submitted for approval.

Following approval, the final secondary school zones will be formally gazetted and published on find my school for the 2028 school year.
