The boccia carnival is a fun based competition for students with disability in years 5 to 12. Find out more about the event and how you can enter.
Who can participate
To participate in the event, students must be
- enrolled at an affiliated school.
- in year 5 or above.
The carnival is for students with disabilities, but students without disabilities can be used to make up a school team.
Where and when
There are 2 dates for the carnival this year. Schools can choose to attend either
- Friday 16 October, Seaford Secondary College.
- Tuesday 20 October, Venue - To be confirmed (North).
The carnival will start at 9.30am and finish by 2.30pm. The draw and final details will be sent to schools once nominations closed.
Event format
The carnival is a participation based event to allow students with disabilities to compete in a supportive environment. Students do not need any experience to participate.
- Teams will play multiple games in a minor round.
What makes a team
A team can have up to 6 players and a minimum of 3. If your team may have students who will tire quickly, it would be advised to have 6 players in the team to rotate during games.
Students without disabilities can play to enter a school team. These students may need to play using their non-preferred hand to keep the competition even.

What is boccia and how to play
Boccia is a Paralympic sport played on an indoor surface using soft balls. It is a target game based on accuracy and control. Students are required to be seated when releasing the ball. Students can
- throw
- kick
- use a ramp
to propel boccia balls as close as they can to a white target ball or jack.
Equipment
Boccia ramp devices can be requested on the nomination form. Students who need a ramp can request to use one prior to the event by contacting School Sport SA by email at: Education.SchoolSportSA@sa.gov.au.

Schools submit the boccia students with disability carnival nomination form. Nomination form will be available shortly.

- Presentations will be held at the end of the event.
