Surfing Team Championships

The surfing championships are for schools who nominate teams from students in years 7 to 12. Find out more about the event and how to participate.

Who can participate

To participate in the event, students must be

  • enrolled at an affiliated school
  • in year 6 or above

Schools can nominate multiple teams.

Where and when

Monday 28 October and Friday 1 November 2024 (Schools need to attend only one of these days)

Finals held on Friday 22 November

Middleton Beach, Carpark at the corner of Chapman Road and Surfers Parade

Teams must arrive by 9:30am for a pre contest meeting.

Results

Results will be made available as soon as possible after the event.

Event format

One surfer per team will be in the water at a time to ride a wave before they tag their team mate on the beach for their turn. Teams will have a time limit to score as many points for their team as possible. The draw and heat structure will be sent out prior to the competition.

What makes a team

Teams consist of 5 surfers of any gender.

Safety and equipment

Surfing and water safety experience is essential for all students entering into this event. Water cover will be provided by Port Noarlunga Aquatics Centre to competitors in each heat only. Students not in a heat should not be in the water. The safety/supervision of students not surfing in a heat rests with their supervising teacher. Students can bring their own board and must wear a wetsuit and contest rash vest for identification. Foam surf boards and wetsuits can be provided by the aquatic centre. Aquatic consent and medical information forms for participating students is required to be emailed to education.schoolsportsa@sa.gov.au prior to the event.

Entry fees

$44 including GST per team per event.

No payment is required on the day. A tax invoice will be sent to schools after the event.

How to enter

Schools must submit their nomination form by Monday 14 October.

Schools must ensure that

  • students and their caregivers acknowledge and accept the risk involved in participating in surfing.
  • appropriate caregiver consent is obtained and all consent forms and medical details are brought to the event in case an accident or medical incident occurs.

Presentations 

Presentation of medals and shield will be on the finals day for team winners.
