The Department for Education offers employment through traineeships and graduate positions.
Traineeships
Traineeships provide structured learning and paid employment to achieve a nationally recognised qualification at the certificate III level. They are for a specific period of time.
Traineeship positions may be full time or part time.
Trainees are paid according to the entry-level salary of the position.
Roles available
Traineeships are available in a number of units across the department, including:
- information technology
- office administration
- sport and recreation
- grounds work and maintenance
- early childhood education and care
- education support.
Traineeship eligibility
To be eligible you will be:
- aged between 17 and 30 years; or up to 35 years if identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or as having a declared disability
- a South Australian resident
- an Australian citizen, or have an appropriate work visa
- willing to undertake Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) training
- required to gain a Department of Human Services (DHS) Child-Related Employment Screening prior to being employed
- without vocational education and training (VET) (higher than certificate III level) or tertiary qualifications.
In addition, you must:
- have not completed a traineeship within the South Australian Public Sector previously, or one hosted by the South Australian Public Sector
- not be a current South Australian Public Sector employee or were once a South Australian Public Sector employee who accepted a TVSP.
Graduate employment opportunities
Graduate employment is for people who completed a university qualification within the last 3 years or are a final-year student who will be conferred before the employment starts.
There are a number of graduate roles available across the department, such as:
- care support worker
- support worker
- finance officer
- information technology officer
- laboratory assistant
- HR administrative officer.
Graduate eligibility
To be eligible you will be:
- a final-year student and will be conferred before employment commences or have completed a university qualification within the last 3 years
- a South Australian resident
- an Australian citizen, permanent resident or have an appropriate work visa
- willing to undertake Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) training
- required to gain a Department of Human Services (DHS) Child-Related Employment Screening before being employed.
In addition, you must:
- have not completed a graduate program within the South Australian Public Sector or Commonwealth Government previously, or one hosted by the South Australian Public Sector
- not be a current South Australian Public Sector employee or were once a South Australian Public Sector employee who accepted a TVSP.
